We work together with communities to establish clean water facilities and sanitation practices, using a mix of practical support, education and sanitation promotion.
Our practical support is the provision of water facilities such as water tanks and tap stands. We only provide materials that are not locally available. All other materials are gathered and contributed by the community to ensure ownership and knowledge of the facilities, which drives sustainability.
We provide sustainable clean water facilities that are managed by community water committees. These water projects eliminate the need for women and children to make multiple trips each day carrying heavy buckets of water.
In 2012 The Young Heart Foundation was given the rights to install and operate four boreholes in Madina, Accra. The boreholes are part of a Community Water Project in Madina and part of the local Municipal Assembly’s drive to improve access to clean water to all the residents of Madina. Young Heart Foundation will be manage the boreholes on a Social Enterprise basis and will use profits derived from the project to improve and expand the project and also to educate local communities on sanitation and hygiene.
The aim of the project is to significantly enhance access to safe water for poor and underprivileged families through the supply of clean water to the community and improving sanitation. And thus, help reduce illnesses that come as a result of dirty water.
